It’s no secret that I really like to feature a replacement material for my home decoration. And since I really like to combine and match materials for my projects, I’m perpetually on the seek for my next favorite pattern which regularly leaves my house with a material stash that I would like to stay organized.
Like other people, I like to keep my material and sewing-related stuff in a drawer or plastic box that I created in my workplace, however, if you don’t have an inbuilt, there are still such a lot of fun and exquisite ways in which to maintain your material organized and perhaps even show your collection!
All right – here we are more than ready to go!
Rules 1: Material storage
Firstly, let’s spend some time on material storage! Just think about the amount of fabric you select once you begin a quilt. Not all the stuff you buy is used for a specific designer, right? Or do you always rummage around for colors? Store your material consistent with the order you employ it! I typically begin a sewing project with a color palette in my mind first, and then I kinda find and organize most of my stash by color.
Rule 2: Hang your fabric
One more tip to store your quilting tools and fabric by using hangers. Store them close to your workspace and cutting table. For instance, keep all of your quilting rulers along by hanging them on a bar close to your table so you can reach them whenever you want.
Store scissors, pens/markers, and your presser feet in an organizer (like a plastic box with a lid) close to your stitching table. Keep productive by placing your favorite tools at intervals reach! You can find a lot of amazing containers from IKEA or Amazon.
Buy a basic sewing machine for home use

Rule 3: Organize scraps by color
For storing scraps, sorting by color could be a nice resolution. Sorting by size is another good choice. Keep most of your scraps sorted by placing them in a plastic bin on the highest shelf of the rack. Once I want to look for a suitable scrap for the project, it’s quite fun and easy to simply get the full bin out and choose a good one. After that, just simply stuff everything back in, click on the lid and place it back on the shelf.
Rule 4: Once a year, go through all quilting magazines and books
Just try to go through your sewing room and check for magazines, fabric, or gifts that you’re able to drop off. Giving them out to your friends or anyone in need is a good thing for passing on books and magazines about sewing. I also try to limit my magazines to just one shelf, and books to one shelf. After they begin to overflow, that’s the time I do know to give away some!
You surely have got favorite magazine patterns, however, don’t need to save lots of the full magazine, tear out the pages you would like, and store them in page protectors in a very three-ring binder. Don’t make your house a total mess!
