Sivi - Iveco 380 E52 - Sauvin SchmidtA 8x6 tractor with a ZF WSK 400 and a 2-bed-6 Nicolas moduletrailer
Early december 2004 this special Iveco of
Sauvin Schmidt was standing at a parking place in Switzerland.
The tractor is special because of the axle layout, it is a 8x6. These tractors have been made by Sivi (now part of Astra) and are based on a 6x6 chassis. The front axle and the tandem are driven, the 2nd front axle has been placed by Sivi.
This is, as far as I know, the only 8x6 Sivi tractor in Northern Europe (others are in Italy and Spain). The tractor is equiped with a ZF WSK 400 torque converter.
Heavy drawbar couplings have been mounted to the front and the rear of the chassis. Remarkable is that they mounted the small/narrow Iveco cab (Probably the large unit isn’t available on the all wheel drive vehicles).
Behind the cab is the dieseltank, storage compartments and 2 large air filters. A really long slide table for the fifth wheel is mounted on the chassis, it runs from directly behind the tower to almost the end of the chassis.
Behind the Sivi hangs a 2-bed-6 Nicolas moduletrailer. The load is a tram of Bombardier.
Total length of this transport was about 45 meters. Here is clearly visible how low this special Nicolas trailer is.
At the other side of the tower we find the cooling. It consists of a water-air cooler for the engine (the black one in front) and a oil-air cooler for the torque converter (the aluminium colored one behind the other). In front of the watercooler there is a small oil-air cooler for the hydraulics that drives the cooling fan.
Another interesting technical detail is the suspension. This Iveco has leaf springs on the front axle and air suspension on the other 3 axles.
A rare truck that was on my wish-list for a longer time. Because of a tip of
Markus Schär from Switzerland I could photograph it, thanks for that !!
