People are earing money by simply standing in line.

Have you ever imagined that you could make a living by standing around and doing nothing? Making easy money like this may seem like a dream for most people. Dream no longer! Getting hired to stand in line has become an actual profession for some people around the world.

The growing industry of waiting in lines for other people has emerged over the past 10 years. One man who saw the potential for this type of work is Robert Samuel, founder of Same Ole Line Dudes (SOLD Inc.). He got into the business in 2012 after he lost his job as a sales representative in New York City. In desperate need of cash, he decided to place an advertisement offering to wait in someone else’s place to purchase the soon-to-be-released iPhone 5. After waiting in line for 19 hours, he earned US$325.

In December of that year, Samuel founded his line standing company, SOLD Inc. The company has been able to earn as much as US$1,000 per week. Since then, professional line standers have made money by waiting to get into trendy bars and restaurants, buy tickets to concerts and musicals, or grab the latest shoes, clothes, or electronic devices.

Tips in Use

♦ as much as... 的用法

as much as...

Henry earns as much as $1,000 a week.

$1,000(= a thousand dollars)虽为复数,但其 所代表的是不可数抽象名词 money,修饰 money 时须使用 much,故用 as much as。

若要修饰可数名词的数量,则用 as many as...。

例:As many as 300 people are on the plane.
